Karl "Collie" McMinn, 72, of Georgia Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Shirley officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Karl "Collie" McMinn was born June 24, 1942, in Port Washington, New York to Ray and Betty (Hansen) McMinn. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1962. Collie married Wanda McFarland June 26, 1968 here in Carlsbad. He was a jack of all trades, working in the potash mines, welding, working as a mill-rite and most recently driving for the city transit. Collie's love was spending time with his family, especially "his girls" and grandkids which were the light of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. Collie never knew a stranger and was affectionately known as Papaw to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara McMinn and grandson, Ryan White. The family would like to thank the staff at TLC for the excellent care and love shown to Collie. Survivors are his wife, Wanda McMinn of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Angie McMinn and John T. Hammond, Kim McMinn, Jolene Rich and husband, Robert and Brandy McMinn, all of Carlsbad NM; grandchildren: Weston, Taylor, Ari and husband, Joel, Paige and fiance, Cody, Lacie. B.J., Dylan, Rylee and Everlee; great-granddaughter, Brooke and another one on the way; brother, Robert McMinn and wife, Doris; sister, Margaret King and husband, Lonnie and numerous nieces and nephews.
