Karen Dennis MacDonald

Karen Dennis MacDonald, 79, of W. Cherry Lane, passed away April 7, 2022 at Goodlife Assisted Living. Cremation has taken place and private family services will take place.

Karen was born December 10, 1942 in Denver, Colorado to John C. and Wanda (Johnson) Cowart.  She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1960.  Karen received a bachelor’s degree in education from NMSU and later earned a master’s in education from Eastern New Mexico University.  She taught school for 40 years and especially loved teaching her students how to read.  Karen was an avid sports fan, kept up with the current news and loved reading.  She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kit Dennis.

Survivors are her sons: Van Dennis of Hobbs, NM, Jon Dennis of Memphis, TN; daughter, Renee Laird of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Stevie Dennis, Ana Williams, Morgan Fields, Melanie Strong, Barbara Pieschke, Erin Dennis, Jeffrey Dennis, Zachary Dennis, Casey Dennis, Trent McGuire, Morgan Vega and Ryan McGuire and 13 great-grandchildren.
