Beloved Julio "July" Angel Silvas, 28, of Queens Highway, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at his home. Julio was born to Jessie Silvas and Sylvia Quintela Aragon on October 4, 1984 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to Carlsbad as a young boy to be closer to the large and loving Aragon family. July spent much of his boyhood growing up on the family farm in Otis with his aunt and uncle, Leo and Diana Lopez. He treasured these happy times hanging out with his many cousins and other relatives. With the loving support of his mother and stepfather, Mike Abel, Julio excelled in school, played basketball, and was active in Future Farmers of America. Upon graduation he attended classes at New Mexico State University - Carlsbad. In 2005, Julio married Amber Gregory of Carlsbad, N.M. Julio found his life's passion as the father of three beautiful children, Brayden "Boog" Silvas, Lexi "Lexerville" Silvas, and Kinzi "Tank" Silvas. Always a devoted father, he loved taking his wife and children on long ATV rides to explore the ranch where they made their home. He was an avid hunter and a passionate and quickly improving golfer. Characteristic of his generous and giving spirit, Julio founded and organized the Annual Trinity School Golf Tournament, which will be continued as a memorial tournament in his honor. Julio worked for United Salt and Hanover Corporation. He was a partner and a General Manager in Rockhouse Water Services. He led by example and was a great mentor to his employees. Julio was well known for his playful spirit, practical jokes, and barbeque chicken. Julio had the unique ability to make everyone around him feel special. To know "July" was to love him and to be loved by him. Julio was preceeded in death by his mother, Sylvia Aragon; nephew, Joseph Aragon; aunt, Rosa Lopez; and cousins: JoAnna Collins, Harry Collins, and Tabitha Bradford. Julio is survived by Amber, his wife; his children: Brayden Silvas, Lexi Silvas, and Kinzi Silvas of the home; father: Jesse Silvas of Odessa, Texas; stepfather, Mike Abel of Carlsbad, N.M.; aunt Diana Lopez and husband, Leo of Carlsbad, N.M.; brothers: Victor Aragon and his wife, Gayle of Fate, Texas, David Silvas of Texas, and Brian Silvas of Carlsbad, N.M.; mother-in-law, Debbie Charlet and her husband, Alan of Carlsbad, N.M.; father-in-law, Larry W. "Beau" Gregory, and his wife, Kim of Carlsbad, N.M.; Grandfather-in-law: Larry Gregory and his wife, Marjorie of Carlsbad, N.M., Larry Charlet and his wife, Pat of Loving, N.M.; aunts: Olivia Esfandiyari, Margie Aragon, Drusilla Campos, Mary Helen Aragon, Sally Aragon; uncles: Angel Aragon, Albert Aragon, Alex Aragon, Alonzo Aragon; sisters-in-law: Kristin Deal and her husband, Fred, Alana Carreon and her husband, Ralph; brothers-in-law: Austin Gregory, Trapper Gregory, Hunter Gregory, Britt Bradford; cousins: Eric Lopez, Lionel Lopez, Leo Lopez Jr., Cruz Lopez, Leanna Mae Lopez; nieces and nephews: Andrew Aragon, Jessica Aragon, Michael Aragon, Hannah Azzinaro, Zane Deal, Brandon Deal, and Asher Carreon; and other various extended family members. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home in Carlsbad, N.M. A funeral service will be on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 3 p.m at First United Methodist Church of Carlsbad, NM with Pastor Phillip Price of Calvary Assembly of God officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Anthony Lopez, Eric Lopez, Patrick Lopez, Austin Gregory, Fred Deal, Ralph Carreon, Donny Gregory, Dale Cone, Tyler White, and Brandon Mendes. Honorary pallbearers are David Azzinaro, Zane Deal, Ralph Olivas, Jimmy Lopez, Leo Lopez Jr., Cruz Lopez, David Orr, David Powell, Kurt Talbot, Thomas Fouch, Jimmy Tarvin, Shawn Amos, Matt Beard, Billy Bryan, Rick Fouch, Steve Slate, LaKeemo Granger, Ponch Martin, Chase Brown, Mike West, Steven Daughtery. Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Christian Academy, 111 S. Mesquite, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
