Julian "Chapo" Ramirez, 91, of S. Thomason Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at his home.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, January 3, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A Vigil is scheduled for Sunday, January 3, 2016, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, January 4, 2016, 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Cordero officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Julian "Chapo" Ramirez was born November 29, 1924 in Barrancos, Mexico to Juan and Simona (Hinojos) Ramirez and moved to Carlsbad with his family at the age of twelve. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Julian married Lucita Rodriguez January 4, 1947 in Artesia. He worked for Duval and IMC until retiring in 1977. Julian was an avid golfer and coached boxing. Horses were also a hobby of Julian's and he owned numerous horses throughout his life. He was a long-time member of San Jose Catholic Church where he was active in the Holy Name Society, annual family fair, Eucharistic ministry and made visits to parishioners who were sick. Julian was also an active member of the American Legion and VFW. He never turned down the opportunity to watch his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play sports. Julian was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucita R. Ramirez; grandson, Michael Martinez and 8 brothers and sisters.
Survivors are his children: Rose Mary Duarte and husband, Elizer of Carlsbad, NM, John Ramirez and wife, Wilma of Albuquerque, NM, Sebastian Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM, Tony Ramirez and wife, Sally of Carlsbad, NM, Yolanda Sandate and husband, Mike of Carlsbad, NM; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Santiago Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM; sisters: Dominga Martinez of Carlsbad, NM, Petronila Cortez of Lubbock, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Duarte, George Duarte, Sean Ramirez, Jacob Sandate, Eddie Duarte, Jerzy Duarte and Damian Lopez.
