Julia A. Canada, 79, of Soper Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away April 27, 2011 at Lea Regional Medical Center, Hobbs, NM. Visitation will be Friday, Apirl 29, 2011, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor Josh Lake officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Julia A. Canada was born July 21, 1931 in Benton, Arkansas to Julian Maurice and Viola (Edmonson) Buffington. She married W.T. "Tom" Canada on December 22, 1945 in Arkansas. They moved to Carlsbad in 1946. Julia worked for Carlsbad Drug Store, Corner Drug Store, Levine's, was a manager for Circle K, worked for Surplus City and was a customer service representative for Wal-Mart, retiring at age 67. She dedicated her life to taking care of her husband until he passed away in December 2001. Her hobbies included doing jigsaw puzzles, gardening, caring for her yard and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband W.T. "Tom" Canada, son William DeWayne Canada, brother's: Milton Maurice Buffington "Buddy" and Jewell Ellis Buffington. Survivors include son: Milton "Dee" Canada and wife, Valerie of Hobbs, NM, daughter: Peggy Reynolds and husband, Eric of Emory, TX; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Barbara "Bobbie" Rackley Carlsbad, NM and Armetha "Pete" Reynolds of Benton, Arkansas; and four nephews. Pallbearers will be Tracy Canada, Jeromie Pickering, J Michael Sherfield, Tommy Hennington, Jennifer Sherfield and Nikole Tackett. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
