Judith Lee Nelson, 68, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2015, 10:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating.
Private interment will take place in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Judith Lee Nelson was born January 21, 1947, in Buffalo Center, Iowa to Leon and Naureen (Maylow) Heiman. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1965. Judith attended North Iowa Community College, Mankato State College and University of St. Thomas, graduating with a B.S. Administration of Parks and Recreation and Non-Profit Management degree. She married Kenneth Earl Nelson May 29, 1971 in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Judith was on the National Disaster Team for American Red Cross and a Rotary Exchange Program team member to Germany. She was a member of the Assistance League of Carlsbad, Board of Directors for Nana's Fire & Safety, Retirement Council of Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Judith was also involved with Rotary and Friday Focus. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Judith was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors are her husband, Kenneth Earl Nelson of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Burk and husband, Brian Burk of Carlsbad, NM; son, Jeffrey Michael Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; granddaughter, Shannan Joyce Burk; grandsons: Jacob Conner Burk and Cody Nelson Burk; siblings: Joyce Heiman of Burnsville, MN, Dennis Heiman and wife, Louella of Grimes, IA, Debbie Hartman and husband, John of Sheffield, IA, Jim Heiman and wife, Emilie of Wichita Falls, TX, Tom Heiman and wife, Patti of Baldwin City, KS; sister and brother-in-law, Fred and Judy Jones of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
