Early in the morning on December 26th, Judith Jo Ann Koenig went home to the arms of Jesus, her Lord and savior after a battle with cancer.
Judi Hughes was born March 5th, 1945 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Samuel Owen Hughes and Ima Dale Roberson Hughes. She lived at the Hughes Ranch in Dog Canyon New Mexico for the first 19 years of her life. She attended a one room school at El Paso Gap, NM, through the 8th grade and then attended Carlsbad High School graduating in May of 1964. During the summer of 1964 she worked at Glorieta Baptist Assembly, located east of Sante Fe, NM where she met her future husband Robert Koenig. They were married on November 25th, 1965 in Abilene, TX. She attended Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, TX and Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in April 1967, obtained her RN license and worked many years at various locations in both new born nursery and home health.
She is survived by her spouse of 46 years, Robert (Bob) Koenig of Capitan NM, and her five living children. Her daughter Sherri Ruth Davis, son-in-law Howard Davis and grandchildren Meaghan and Geoffrey of Suffolk VA. Her son Randal Dale Koenig and grandsons Ryan and Zackery of Castle Rock, CO. Her one twin daughter Samantha (Sami) Suzanne Newcom, son-in-law Jonathan Newcom and grandsons Kennan and Carter of Tucson, AZ. Her other twin daughter Tamara (Tami) Kaye Odom, son-in-law Greg Odom and grandchildren Kaydin, Kylie and Miles of Las Cruces, NM. Her youngest son Jesse Owen Koenig is a college student at ENMU-Ruidoso and lives at the family home in Capitan, NM. She is also survived by her mother Ima Dale Reynolds, her brother Dale Hughes, his wife Jenny Hughes and their son Justin Hughes all of Artesia, NM.
She is preceded in death by her father Samuel Owen Hughes, stillborn infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann Koenig, nephew Samuel Ty Hughes, and both sets of her grandparents: Samuel A. Hughes & Elizabeth Clementine Owen Hughes and William A. Roberson & Winnie Mae Fancher Roberson
For many years, Judi and her husband have taught Bible clubs to neighborhood children. They were also involved in cross-cultural mission work. More recently she spent a lot of time making quilts for family, friends and various charities. She also blessed others by sending cards and letters of encouragement. She and Bob are associate missionaries with Missionary Gospel Fellowship, a non-denominational evangelical ministry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the general fund of Guadalupe Christian Camp, (36 Christian Camp Road, Carlsbad, NM, 88220), or to Angus Church of the Nazarene, (HC 71 Box 1162, Capitan, NM 88316) or to MGF, (Missionary Gospel Fellowship, P.O. Box 1535 Turlock, CA 95381-1535).
Viewing will be on Saturday December 31st at Guadalupe Christian Camp, Queen N.M. at 9:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by a meal with sharing, and a slideshow that celebrates Judi's life. The graveside service will then be around 1:30 pm at the family cemetery on the Hughes Ranch, upper Dog Canyon. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
A memorial service in Lincoln County to commemorate Judi's life will then be on Sunday afternoon January 1st, 2012 at 2:30pm at the Angus Church of the Nazarene at Bonita Park Conference Center, Angus, NM. (This is located between Capitan and Ruidoso on NM 48 at the intersection of NM 37).
