Juanita Judkins passed away from this life to her eternal home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Juanita was born January 27, 1923 in New Madrid, Missouri. She grew up in Flint, Michigan. Moving with her parents to Carlsbad in 1943, she met the most handsome Navy Lieutenant, Grattan E. "Jud" Judkins. They were married and moved across country with the Navy until he retired to Carlsbad in 1948. Juanita had a passion for helping others, so it was an ideal career for her to become a nurse, first a LPN in Carlsbad and then to continue her education with an RN degree. She worked as a nurse for the Memorial Hospital and later for Guadalupe Medical Center in Carlsbad, then as a nurse for Dr. Arnold Franzblau's urology practice, and also with Lakeview Christian Home. Her loving, caring nature made her an excellent nurse. After losing Jud in 1998 she moved to Roswell to be with her daughter, Linda. It was hard for her to leave her loving church family after 50 years in Carlsbad, but she, in her typical considering others' needs first, decided to move so her daughter would not have to drive back and forth to Carlsbad to help her. Even though she missed Carlsbad, she loved Roswell's many sweet people and the Country Club Road Church of Christ family.
Juanita and Jud had 3 children together, Richard (Kathy) Judkins, formerly of Huntsville, AL, Ed (Judy) Judkins of Albuquerque, and Linda Judkins Foster of Roswell. Her greatest enjoyment in life besides helping others was her family. She was the greatest possible grandmother to Sharon (Wing) Eng of Bow, NH. Mary (Tim) Krell of Huntsville, AL, Richard (Anita) Judkins of Huntsville, AL, Stephen (Wendy) Judkins of Gainesville, GA, Chad (Kelli) Judkins of Albuquerque, NM, Hali (Wu- Ching) of Albuquerque, Shelly (Jeff) Newton of Divide, CO, Jeremy (Jennifer) Foster of South Bend, IN, Misty (Brent) Carpenter of Ft. Worth, TX, Micah (Crystal) Foster of Odessa, TX and Brooke Foster of Denver, CO. She was blessed with 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Jud, and her son, Richard and daughter-in-love Kathy. She is survived by her faithful, loyal dog, Mimi, who was Mother's joy in her later years of life. We would like to thank all of those who have loved and cared for our Mother: Imelda Carrasco, her loving caregiver, Drs. Amna and Hamid Feroze, her wonderful physcians, her "other" daughter Sharon Carbone, Bonnie Carter and her Roswell church family.
Services will be held 10:00am, Monday, April 15, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, Carlsbad, NM. She will be buried next to the love of her life in Carlsbad Cemetery following the service. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Mountain View Christian Camp c/o Sunset Church of Christ, 1308 W. Blodgett, Carlsbad, NM 88220 or Noah's Ark Animal Shelter, 5217 Buena Vista Drive, Carlsbad, NM 88220 or the Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey, Roswell, NM 88201.
We, her children and grandchildren, rise up and call her blessed. She so blessed our lives with her 90 years here in this life.
