Johnny "Juan" Martinez, 64, of W. Church Street, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. There will be a vigil Thursday, May 4, 2017, 7:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, May 5, 2017 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Cordero officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Johnny "Juan" Martinez was born June 23, 1952 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Eusibio and Eulojia (Melendrez) Martinez. Juan was a maintenance worker for many years at Lakeview Christian Home. He also worked for McDonalds a few years. He retired from the Army National Guard with over 21 years of service. Juan loved his Marilyn Monroe collection. He enjoyed watching football (Cowboys), fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. Juan was a loving father and caring grandfather. Juan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Epifano Martinez and Adon Martinez. Sister: Margarita Martinez. Survivors are his three children: Priscilla Martinez, Veronica Saiz and her husband, Sammy, all of Carlsbad, and son Johnny Martinez, Jr. and his wife, Heather of Santa Fe, NM., ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister: Anastacia Ruiz; brothers: Andres Martinez, Felix Martinez, Lupe Martinez, and Simon Martinez; and uncle: Trine Melendrez. Pallbearers will be Luis Ruiz, Jr., Perfecto Duran, Jr., David Pineda, Sammy Saiz, A.J. Romero, and Manuel Martinez. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
