Joyce Brooks

Joyce Brooks, 79, of N. Burgundy Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 3:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven W. Goings officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Joyce Brooks was born on January 3, 1933, in Encino, NM, to Irving Benny and Velma Louise (Dunn) Rushing. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1951 and then received a Certificate of Certification for Executive Secretary from UNM. Joyce worked in the banking industry for several years. She moved to Carlsbad in 1970 and worked at the hospital as administrative secretary for the director of nursing until retiring in 1992. Joyce was a recipient of the Frist Humanitarian Award. She enjoyed fishing, reading, music, working with horses and always loved the companionship of her dogs over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Venona Dreker and Bennie Jon Irons; and brother, Dillard Rushing. Survivors are long term friend, Libby Fierro of Carlsbad, NM; RaeLynn Smith and husband, Brian of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Jack Rushing and wife, Edna Mae of Mudrow, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. "It has been a magnificent privilege to be a part of the Fierro family; so many people I love dearly. My treasures of life are unbelieveably paramount.
