Joyce Arlene Hatfield, 72, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2017 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The family is holding a memorial service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Bartley officiating. At her request, no visitation will be held, cremation has taken place.
Joyce was born on April 30, 1944 in Paradise, Kansas to Carl and Florence Smith. Her father was in construction, so the family moved around a lot when she was young. She eventually settled in Carlsbad in 1960 and graduated Carlsbad High School in 1962. She enjoyed her work at Fifth District Court and retired as District Court Clerk after 28 years of service.
Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and family was dear to her. She loved her Cocker Spaniel "Baby" and took her everywhere. The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful people who helped her over the years (Casey, Rudy, George, Vanessa, Steve, Andrew, Alecia, Jennifer, and Linda) and the staff of Golden Services and the ICU unit at Carlsbad Medical Center for their excellent care and service above and beyond the call of duty.
Joyce is survived by sons: Michael R. Marshall of Dallas TX, Wayne R. Hatfield and wife, Stephanie of Carlsbad NM, granddaughter, Taylor Hatfield, grandson, Connor Hatfield, brother, Carl (Bob) Smith of Fort Worth, TX, sister, Barbara Seamans of Carlsbad, NM, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Hatfield, and two sisters: Margie Dougan and Janice Fudge. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Seamans, Danny Seamans, Crystal Goins, and Beau Wallen.
