Joseph "Joe" I. Morris

Joseph I. "Joe" Morris, 93, of Jewel Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away March 31, 2010 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Joseph I. "Joe" Morris was born January 22, 1917 in Joplin, Missouri. He grew up in Missouri until he left home at the age of 14. Joe worked on ranches, farms and on the railroad until he began to drive a truck. He married Verla Adkins on February 4, 1953 in Toppenish, Washington. Joe drove a truck over 20 years across the country and then he worked putting in irrigation systems in Oregon and Washington. He loved fishing, camping and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ronald; brothers: Edward Morris and Roy Morris and sister, Jewell Morris. He is survived by his wife, Verla Morris; daughter: Vesta Geer and husband, Donald of Portland, Washington; son, Jim Fine and wife, Jewell of Carlsbad, NM; 4 grandchildren: Lorrie Broyles, Jim Fine, Jr., Joe Geer, and Chuck Fine; 7 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
