Joseph "Joe" Blatsvich, 90, of South Ash Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his home.
There will be no local services.
Joe will be laid to rest with his parents in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, West Virginia with military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
Joseph "Joe" Blatsvich was born on March 29, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Bess (Pruiza) Blatsvich. He grew up in Holden, West Virginia and later served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he worked as a miner for Island Creek Coal Company in Holden for 20 yers and then moved to Carlsbad in 1960 and worked for 23 years at Southwest/AMAX Potash Company, retiring in 1983. Joe was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and during his life he enjoyed bowling, fishing, reading and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Blatsvich of Carlsbad, NM; son, Robert Blatsvich of Artesia, NM; four daughters: Wanda Bricker of Artesia, NM, Carol Collins, Christine Yielding and husband, Lonnie all of Carlsbad, NM, Sandra Kinser and husband, Bill of Lake, West Virginia; 7 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.
