Joseph Glen Brown was born May 1, 1936 and went to heaven on July 22, 2016. A service honoring his life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at 11:00am. Reverend Dan Boyd will officiate. There will be no visitation. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Joe was born in Salem, Illinois to Verner and Esther Brown. He graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky with a B.A. in Business Administration. He served two years in the Army, eventually stationed at White Sands Missile Range. He married Ruth Conner Brown, his college sweetheart, and they lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico while he completed his military duty. After that, they moved to Carlsbad where Joe went to work for IMC Potash. He became a CPA in 1973 and later earned a Master's Degree in Business from New Mexico State University. Most of his career was spent in the potash industry.
Joe loved God, his family and his career. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church since 1961 and served on the administrative board and as financial chairman as well as Sunday School Chair and an organizer of a young couple's class. He was a charter member of Young Republicans, where he served as Vice President. He enjoyed Kiwanis, and became a life long friend of Don Garringer who was his 42 partner. He enjoyed hiking with his wife and friends and was known for designing and building a Christmas tree on his dock for Christmas on the Pecos that was featured in New Mexico Magazine and other publications.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie Suzanne Brown, his parents, and his brothers, E. Stanley Brown, Paul Brown and Thomas Brown. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, son Mark and wife Kiva of Irvine, CA, daughter Lisa Brown Riley and husband Randy of Carlsbad, grandchildren Lauren Brown, Will Riley and Nate Riley, brothers Cecil Brown of Colorado Springs, CO, Harold Brown of Bowling Green, KY, sisters Norma Craft of Albany, KY, Joyce Wray of Glasgow, KY, Doris Stout of Berne, IN, Nancy Moreland of Jeffersonville, IN, and Joy Coleman of Lake Jackson, TX. Pallbearers are Don Garringer, Ben Jones, Charles Cable, Joe Rose, Kelly Wilson, Will Riley, Randy Riley and Rick Jack. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Waters and Dick Forrest.
