Josefa "Nana" Garcia Martinez

Josefa Garcia (Nana) Martinez, 70, of N. Maple Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 22, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home and from 6:00 PM to Vigil at San Jose Catholic Church. A Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, January 25, 2011, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 N. De Baca. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26, 2011, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Josefa Garcia "Nana" Martinez was born December 28, 1940 in Otis, New Mexico to Alejo and Cruz (Carrasco) Garcia. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed life. She was a good friend to everybody. She had a huge heart toward helping people and was always available. She was preceded in death by her husband, Placido A. Martinez; son, Placido, Jr.; parents, Alejo and Cruz Garcia; four brothers: Sabino, Tony, Benny and Mike and a sister, Estella. Survivors include two sons: Jerry Martinez and wife, Sandra of Carlsbad, NM, Jimmy Martinez of Carlsbad, NM; three daughters: Lilly Martinez and Phillip Runnels of Carlsbad, NM, Lucy Martinez of Carlsbad, NM, Corena Martinez of Carlsbad, NM; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers. Pallbearers will be Eric Hernandez, Jerry Martinez, Jr., Willy Chacon, Anthony Runnels, Steve Garcia, Andres Garcia, Gregorio Armendares and Jimmy Broughton.
