Jose "Joe" Salcido, 78, of Carver St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away February 22, 2011 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Friday, February 25, 2011. A prayer service is scheduled for Friday, February 25, 2011, 7:00 PM at Oasis Christian Fellowship. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Oasis Christian Fellowship with Pastor Alberto Alvarez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jose Gutierrez Salcido was born March 19, 1932 in Ft. Stockton, TX to Carnuto and Pabla (Gutierrez) Salcido, Sr. He worked for Stone Rogers Construction in the early years. Joe worked for the City of Carlsbad 33 years in custodial care and maintenance. He was at the library for many of those years. Joe was a member of San Jose Senior Center and Oasis Christian Fellowship. He volunteered in mission efforts to build churches in Mexico for over 15 years. Joe married Alejandra August 24, 1990 in Carlsbad. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and picking up pecans which he shelled and gave to his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Pete G. Salcido, Eduardo Salcido, Domingo Salcido, Chelo Salcido; sisters: Carmen Tatum, Josephina Ledezma and Manuela Navarrette. Survivors include wife, Alejandra Salcido; children: Jesus "Chuy" Salcido and wife, Argelia, Santos Ontiveros and husband, Joe, Cecelia Salcido, Lupe Hernandez, Joe Salcido, Jr. and wife, Maria, Marian Martinez and husband, Angel Orlando Salcido and Juana Salcido all of Carlsbad, NM; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers: Luis Ornelas and wife Enedina, Carnuto Saalcido, Jr. and wife, Anita, Nick Salacido and wife Lydia and Vicente Armanza and wife, Josie; sisters-in-laws: Eva Salcido and Candida Salcido; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers will be Chuy Salcido, Jr., Craig Salcido, Geronimo Ontiveros, Tony Salcido, Adam Martinez, Angel Hernandez, Stacey Granger. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
