Jose C. "Joe" Orona, Jr., 56, of W. Lea Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away March 2, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home and will continue from 6:00 PM to the Vigil at San Jose Catholic Church. A Vigil is scheduled for Sunday, March 6, 2011, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 De Baca. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2011, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Joe Orona, Jr. was born July 23, 1954 in Carlsbad, NM to Jose and Martina (Carrasco) Orona. He has been a lifetime resident. Joe attended school in Albuquerque, NM and college at NMSU-Carlsbad. He worked for Washington TRU Solutions for several years as a Shaft Tendor, where he enjoyed the many people he worked with. Joe also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and especially being the best dad and grandpa to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to music and working on and cruising in his 1962 Chevy Impala. Joe loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Orona and sisters: Celina Orona nad Yolanda Mireles. Survivors are his wife, Dottie Orona of Carlsbad, NM; children: Edmond Poole and wife, Stephanie of Albuquerque, NM, Sunni Orona of Carlsbad, NM, Martina Echavarria and husband, Rafael "Ralphy" of Carlsbad, NM, Joey Orona of Carlsbad, NM; seven grandchildren: Adriana Poole, Isaiah Poole, Joshua Acosta, Alonzo Acosta, III, Allen Acosta, Mariah Echavarria and Rheanna Echavarria; three sisters: Alice Orona, Sandra Subia and husband, Alfonso, Cecilia Flores and husband, Ernest and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Palbearers will be James "Jimmy" Gonzales, Robert Castillo, David Navarrete, Brian Montoya, Joshua Montoya, and Walter "Butch" Daszcyszak. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
