Jose (Joe) Sanchez Guerra was born to parents Martin and Juana Guerra on January 26, 1938 in Malaga, New Mexico. Early in his youth his family moved to Carlsbad where he grew up and attended Carlsbad High School. After school Joe pursued a career in plumbing that led to him moving to Texas and eventually settling in Austin, Texas where he began to raise a family with his first wife the special Margaret Sarabia. Together they began to raise a family of what would be seven boys. During their years together Joe enjoyed the company of family and fishing with friends. Special memories were of driving to visit relatives in Carlsbad, camping trips with the Boy Scouts and early morning coffee while reading the newspaper. Joe worked long hard hours and was often out of town. Life's challenges and struggles eventually led Joe to move away and begin life with his late wife Doreen Lloyd. Doreen and Joe called Gordon, Georgia home and they spent many years together traveling and helping to raise several nieces and nephews. While in Georgia, Joe began a special friendship with Sandra and Mike Burks; relatives of Doreen that represented genuine love and care. Joe enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, the company of their nieces and nephews, story telling, and spending time with his beloved cat Badger. Joe was a man who was experienced in life and willing to offer a hand or advice to those around him. Joe moved back to Carlsbad in 2010 to be closer to his family. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Octaveana and Laurensia, and beloved wife Doreen. Survivors include seven sons: Joe Guerra and wife, Carolyn of San Marcos, TX, Ralph Guerra of San Leandro, CA, Mike Guerra and wife, Dorothea of Canyon Lake, TX, Pat Guerra and wife Jennifer of Savanah, GA, Richard Guerra and wife, Wanda of El Paso, TX, Martin Guerra of San Leandra, CA and Harold Guerra of Carlsbad, NM; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson and his siblings Emma Rodriguez, Bernave Guerra, Luz Hernandez, Belen Guerra, Hector Guerra, Maria Lund, and Alicia Anderson.
