Johnny Layton Johnson, Jr.

Johnny Layton Johnson, Jr., 55, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Layton was born on May 21, 1967, in New Albany, IN to Johnny and Shelia Johnson.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 5:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2022, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mike Adams officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Layton was an avid sports fan.  He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and the UK Wildcats. He also loved to watch his hometown football team, The Fleming Neon Pirates. He and his cousin Jimmy were such avid fans, they were given the name "Bleacher Coaches". Layton was also an avid fisherman. He loved spending time on Cherokee Lake in Tennessee. At one time or another, all of the family got to enjoy a great time with him on that lake. Layton loved his family very much.  He always thought, the more, the merrier. There was never a dull moment when he was around. His life was like a roller coaster and we are all better for having gotten a ticket to ride with him.

Layton was preceded in death by his mother, Shelia (Meade) Johnson.

Layton is survived by his wife, Jill Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Lana Paige Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; son, Johnny Layton Johnson, III of Lexington, KY; granddaughter, Laya Saige Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; father, Johnny Layton Johnson, Sr. of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Caroline Fleming and husband, John of Carlsbad, NM; niece, Ally Bolling and husband, Austin; great niece, Amelia Bolling; and numerous extended family.
