Johnny H. Montez, 58, of N. Mesa Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away March 10, 2011 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Monday, March 14, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Monday, March 14, 2011, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Johnny H. Montez was born October 17, 1952 in Carlsbad, NM to Roman A. and Eva Gomez (Hernandez) Montez. He attended Carlsbad High School. Johnny worked in the potash mines and later in construction. He enjoyed listening to oldies music, dancing and most of all spending time with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Roman Montez; son, John Montez and sister, Lena Montez. Survivors are his son, Jason Montez and wife, Emily of Hutto, TX; daughter, Hiva Dominguez of Carlsbad, NM; six grandchildren; mother, Eva H. Montez; siblings: Carmen Perez and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM, Delma Mata and husband, Richard of Carlsbad, NM, Armando Montez and wife, Lupe of Carlsbad, NM, Gloria Campbell and husband, Darrell of Trinidad, CO, Maida Locke and husband, Rick of Middletown, PA, Mary Pena and husband, Dino of Tucson, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers will be Daryl Campbell, David Perez, Rudy Martinez, Robert Ortiz, Candy Martinez and Richard Mata. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
