John Henry Sims

Obituary John Henry Sims, age 48, passed away unexpectedly, at his home, on August 8, 2019. John is survived by his daughter, Shaylee Matthews, his parents, Loreda and Dickie Smethers of Weatherford Texas and John and Vicki Sims of Goodrich Texas. His siblings, Sandra Yoders and husband, Dwight, Glenda Mills and husband, Larry, Terry Cartwright and wife, Cassie, Justin Cartwright, Pamela Huggins and husband, James, Gary Smethers and, wife, Angel, Aurelia Wilson Sims as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his sister, Amanda Cartwright Mull. John was a magnet for children, dogs and horses. They all seemed to bring out his fun and gentle side. He was known to many of the young ones as 'Cowboy John'. John's dry sense of humor was well known. He could deliver a one-liner with a straight face and send those within hearing distance to the floor laughing. John worked at Intrepid Mines for many years and as of late he worked as a pumper at AirSwift. Memorial service in Carlsbad will be Saturday, August 24, 10:00 AM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home and in Weatherford TX on August 31, 2:00 PM at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Home The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention or like organization.
