John Robert Sibley, 74, of K Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Lakeview Christian Home.
There will be no visitaiton, cremation will take place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2014, 9:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating.
A private interment will be at Sibley Last Chance Ranch Cemetery at a later date.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
John Robert Sibley was born June 14, 1940 in El Paso, Texas to Casey and Christine (Staus) Sibley. He grew up on the family ranch. During high school he was very active in FFA. John graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1958. He graduated for Sul Ross in 1965 with a Bachelors Degree in Range Management. December 21, 1963 he married Mary Rita Corbel in Crane, Texas. They moved out to the ranch where they lived until 1982 when they moved to town due to health issues. After they moved to town, John worked for Mississippi Chemical Corporation. John was a member of the Soil Conservation Association in 1981, was appointed to the Federal Reserve Board in 1984, has been a member of the Sheriff's Posse since 1978; was part of Sibley and Sons, a member of Woodman of the World, New Mexico Cattle Growers, Texas Southwest Sheep and Cattle Growers; member of the Gideon's and a member of Standpipe Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Rita Sibley of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Christy Sibley-Breen of Carlsbad, NM, brother, William Casey Sibley and wife, Charlotte of Carlsbad, NM; nieces: Virginia Moyers of Carlsbad, NM, Carey Box and husband, Jim Bob of Loving, NM; great-nieces and nephews: Pearl Casey Burkham, Lily Box, Jim Bob Box and Orin Box.
