John William Morris

John W. Morris, 74, of Oak Rd., Loving, New Mexico, passed away August 9, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 12, 2010, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. John W. Morris was born November 14, 1935 in Tyler, Texas to Houston and Lottie (Mullican) Morris. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School in Tyler in 1953. John then graduated from University of Texas in Houston with a BS in Geology. He moved to New Mexico in 1976 and married Nelda that same year. He has owned and operated Morco Geological Services, Inc. over 34 years. John was a member of the Elks Lodge # 1558. He had a passion for farming and supporting the Loving Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Reed; brother, Robert Morris; three sisters: Jackie Heard, Maxine Stewart, LaVerne Schwabbe; two nieces and one nephew. Survivor are his wife, Nelda Morris, one daughter: Alisa Stephens and husband, Albert of Loving, NM; three sons: Ronald Reed and wife, Diane of Loving, Russell Reed of Carlsbad, NM, Randy Reed and wife, Starr of Thorton, CO; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 grandchildren; sister: Diane Polito of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law: Doris Morris of Tyler, TX; three nephews and and other extended family. Pallbearers will be Gary Polito, John Robert Morris, Jason Morris, Harvey Rodriguez, Glen McDonald and Henry McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Boundy, Jeff Smith, Walker Stewart, Fred Lara and Morco Employees. Memorial contributions may be made to Loving School District Sports Programs, P.O. Box 98, Loving, New Mexico 88256.
