John H. "Jack" Yeager, Jr., 89, of Modesta, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 20, 2011 at his home.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, January 23, 2011, 1:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with grandson's, Jerry Thompson and Tony Yeager officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
John H. "Jack" Yeager, Jr. was born October 26, 1921 in Devol, Oklahoma to John Henry and Nannie Belle (Higgins) Yeager, Sr. He graduated from high school in Littlefield, TX in 1940. Jack married Marcella Mahaffey on April 5, 1941 in Muleshoe, TX. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII as a Radioman 1st Class. Jack went to work for PCA in 1946 where he worked until retiring in 1981, never missing a day of work. He was a gifted carpenter. Jack built a number of homes in and around Carlsbad and was also a talented cabinet and furniture maker. He was a member of the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department as a First Responder and past Chief. Jack was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Mountain Top Daylight Lodge # 81, where he was past Master and Secretary. He was an ordained minister of the gospel and had the honor to marry many of his family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella Yeager; son, Tony Yeager; great-grandson, Cody Horton and brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his two daughters: Gloria Byram of Carlsbad, NM, Kitty Huber and husband, Michael of Gardendale, TX; 11 grandchildren and spouses; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Robby Foster, Rusty Foster, Eric Copley, Russell Copley, Roy Yeager, Jesse Boyd and Michael Huber. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Hicks, Robert Ward, great-grandsons and great-great-grandsons.
