John Goodwin

John B. Goodwin, 89, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, peacefully passed away at his home on August 17, 2023. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at Denton-Wood funeral home on September 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm along with his wife Lovone Goodwin, they were married for 63 years. John was born on July 28, 1934, in Strawberry, Arkansas to Hosea Goodwin and Zena Goodwin (Reed). After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy. He served 4 years as a photographer during the Koren War. After his tour of duty, he moved to New Mexico where he met the love of his life Lovone Silbaugh. They were married on March 19, 1960. John followed in his dad's footsteps when he went to school and joined the US Forestry and later went to work for the Department of Game and Fish.

John worked for Game and Fish for over 30 years. After retiring, John enjoyed writing articles for numerous Gun Magazines about the different guns and muzzleloaders he tested on their behalf. He enjoyed the outdoors where he would compete in the Muzzleloader Rendezvous. He also enjoyed cooking for Steve Jones on his guided hunts.

John was preceded in death by his wife Lovone Goodwin, his parents, stepdad John K. Reed, and brother Frank Reed.

Survivors are his sister Ruth Twaits and Bill Twaits; his daughters Kerry Moutray and husband Terry; Linda Guiterrez and husband Freddi "Cha-Cha" Guiterrez; his grandchildren J.R. Perkins; Stephanie Moutray and fiancé Peyton Anderson; Amanda Christon and husband, Josh Christon; great-grandson, Rylan Davis and several nieces and nephews.
