John "Ed" McAnally

John "Ed" McAnally, 90, of W. Cherry Ln., Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Good Life Senior Living and Memory Care center. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 22, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Denton Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff McAnally, his grandson, officiating. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. John "Ed" McAnally was born May 14, 1925 in Hermleigh, TX to Ernest E. and Tessie (Fisk) McAnally. He graduated from Pecos High School in 1943 and attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX prior to joining the United States Navy. He married Edna Davis on November 10, 1948 in Pecos, TX. In the Navy from 1943-1946, Ed served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters on 4 different ships providing radio/communication and other support for merchant vessels. Following his service in the Navy, in 1947 he started his 40+ year career with the Southern Union Gas Company (later known as the Gas Company of New Mexico and Public Service Company of New Mexico) where he served in numerous management capacities across West Texas and New Mexico. Actively involved in public service and volunteerism, Ed was a member of and held leadership positions for numerous organizations including: McCamey, TX: Chamber of Commerce; School Board; Salvation Army; Little League (baseball); United Fund, Upton County Park Board; and Lions Club. Pecos, TX: Chamber of Commerce; Reeves County Historical Survey Committee; Industrial Development Board; Development Board of Big Bend National Park; Pecos Teener League (baseball); Downtown Lions Club; Boy Scouts of America, Pecos Valley District & Buffalo Trail Council. Carlsbad, NM: Downtown Lions Club; Pecos Valley Baptist Association; Carlsbad Gideon Camp, and Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council. Serving the Lord was a very important part of Ed's life and he was active in his community congregations and served in several leadership capacities, most recently as a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Superintendant and Teacher as well as a Deacon. With all his activities, he still managed to spend quality time with friends and family playing golf, fishing and hunting, especially enjoying the quiet and solitude of the mountains around Mayhill, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ken McAnally; brothers, Delton McAnally, Emmett McAnally; sister, Bonnie Scott and son-in-law, Bill Sadler. Survivors are his wife, Edna McAnally of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Cheryl Exum and husband, Bob of Ruidoso, NM, Christy Sadler of Carlsbad, NM; daughter-in-law Donna Landrith of New Caney, TX; grandchildren: Jennifer Simpson and Shannon, Jeff McAnally and Tammy, Kevin Sadler and Jamie, Carmon St. Clair and Ryan, Jim Landrith and Stacey, and Amy Henderson; great-grandchildren: Kristian, Slate, Zachary, Seth, Grace, Addison, Ainsley, Skyler, Adelynn, Noah, and Claire; sister, Marge Embry of Lovington, NM and several nieces and nephews.
