John left this world on November 9, 2010 after battling cancer at the age of 69.
Cremation has taken place. The family will gather at Denton Wood Funeral Home Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to receive friends and family. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
John was born on June 12, 1941 to Robert L. Detrick and Ruth R. (Beveridge) Detrick in Wayne, PA. John and his wife, Barbara, lived in Carlsbad until 1983 when they moved to Lovington, NM for John's employer, Southwestern Public Service (SPS) Xcel from which he retired in 2001 after 39 years of service. John was a member of the Eddy County Rescue Squad, an instructor for the Young Guns Shooting Club, and assisted the fire fighters at Queens. John and his friend, Les Towel, opened the Antique Auto Barn on the National Parks Highway. John was an avid bluegrass fan, loved to hunt, race his stock car, and spend time in his shop tinkering. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margaret Detrick and Ruthann Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Detrick, of the home; three daughters: Terri Berry and husband Chuck of Carlsbad, NM, Rebecca Mayeaux of Carlsbad, CA, Connie Tiffner and husband Roger of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughters: Tenisha Graham and husband, Jamie of Carlsbad, NM, Tanille Bruce and husband, Win of Carlsbad, NM; grandsons: Trey Berry of Lubbock, TX and Clint Tiffner of Carlsbad, NM; great-grandsons: Cameron and Brody Graham, Graham Tiffner and great-granddaughter, Avea Bruce; brothers: Bill Detrick and wife, Antionette, Richard Detrick and wife, Sandy and Robert Detrick and wife Donna.
