Joe Sillas, 60, of Monte Vista, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Cremation has taken place and per Joe's request, there will be no public services.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Joe Sillas was born August 29, 1951 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Jose V. and Leonor (Gallegos) Sillas. He played Cavemen Basketball from 1968 to 1970 when he graduated. Joe served his country in the US Army from 1971 to 1973. He had a passion for playing Bingo and enjoyed watching his team, the Boston Celtics. Joe served as past-commander of the American Legion, Post #7. He thoroughly loved his grandchildren and took every opportunity to spend time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny Sillas; sisters: Frances Sillas, Linda Grado and Delma Sillas.
Survivors are his wife, Elvira "Vera" Sillas of Carlsbad, NM; four children: Joe Sillas and wife, Bianca of Artesia, NM, Barbara Sillas of Carlsbad, NM, Jeromy Sillas and Jessica of Carlsbad, NM, Jerry Sillas and wife, Jeannie of Carlsbad, NM; eight grandchildren: Javyn, Isabel, J.J., Abigail, Josh, Thaliya, Aubrey, Jonahas; six sibblings: Yolanda Munoz and husband, Ben of Carlsbad, NM, Jimmy Sillas and wife, Marie of Carlsbad, NM, MaryAnn Monje and husband, Manuel of Greeley, CO, Lucy Tucker of Alpine, TX, Betty Quiroz and husband, Poncho of Presidio, TX, Danny Uriquidez and wife, Patricia of Ft. Davis, TX and 26 nieces and nephews.
