Joe McNew, 90, of W. Riverside Dr., passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church with brother-in-law Bill Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Joe McNew was born December 17, 1925 in Stanton, Texas to Jay Hobbs and Sadie Martha (Franks) McNew. After school, Joe served his country in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 - 1946. He married Billie Faye Taylor on February 13, 1949 in La Mesa, Texas. Joe worked for Studebaker and then as service manager for Ford Tractor. In 1960, Joe and Billie moved to Carlsbad where Joe went to work as a mechanic in the Potash mines. He built a garage on Texas street where he had a auto repair shop over 20 years. Joe bought the ranch in 1967 and subdivided the ranch to start the McNew Division. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and ministry. Joe has been involved with Bill Glass Prison Ministries, Kawanis, Community Corrections Panel, Gideon's International, and teaching Men's Sunday School class. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie McNew, son Wayland McNew, four brothers, and one sister. Joe is survived by his grandsons: Tobyn McNew and wife, Jenell of Carlsbad, NM, and Vince McNew and wife, Shannon of Centinial, CO., great-grandchildren: Connor McNew, Keaton McNew, Madison McNew, Lyseah McNew, and Austin McNew. Sisters: Geraldine Posey of Big Spring, TX., Jean Jackson of Big Spring, TX., Shirley Croft of Carthage, MO., Vanell Burgess of Big Spring, TX., brother: Jake McNew of Odessa, TX., brother in law: Pat Mitchell and niece, Reba Mitchell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
