Joe Lunardon, 89, of Landsun Circle, Carlsbad, NM, entered eternal rest Thursday, September 27, 2012 after a lengthy struggle of Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, September 30, 2012, 4:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Joe Lunardon was born November 24, 1922, in Thurber, Texas to Umberto Primo Lunardon and Annetta Ferrero Lunardon. He attended school in Strawn, Texas and later completed his GED. Joe left the town of Strawn to join the Navy and serve his country during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Strawn for a short time, then came to Carlsbad at the invitation of his sister, Marguerite Brown. Joe was employed by U.S. Borax Potash Mines, then later employed by AMAX as a hoist man. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1985. Joe met Mary Frances Weldon while she was working at the Corner Drug Store. He soon knew she would be the love of his life, and they were married on January 14, 1947. Their 50th anniversary celebration was a joyous event for both of them. In his retirement he enjoyed spending much time in his beautiful yard while tending his many roses. He also loved to travel to Ruidoso with Mary Frances. She preceded him in death in 2004. He is survived by two sons: Joe Lunardon and wife, Charlotte of Lubbock, TX, Jim Lunardon and wife, Judy of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Jennifer Specht and husband, Jim of Denton, TX, Michael Lunardon of Carrollton, TX, Jana Lunardon Jones of Carrollton, TX, Jilian Brown and husband, Matt of Dallas, TX; four great-grandchildren: Mina, Kat and Tegan Specht, Ethan Brown; brother, John Lunardon and wife, Mary Sue of Irving, TX; two sisters: Amy Kelley of Albuquerque, NM, Joan Varner of Arlington, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Maria Salcido and the amazing caregivers of Landsun Hospice and private duty care, who have given him such tender care and devotion for the past 18 months.
