Joe A. Starkey, 102, of Richard St, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away July 23, 2009 at his home.
Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Boyd, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Joe A. Starkey was born October 24, 1906 in Ballinger, TX to Sam and Emma (Vogelson) Starkey. He grew up in Texas and moved to California when he was 20 years old to begin his painting career. Joe joined the US Navy and served his country during WWII. He moved to Arizona after the war. Joe married Fern Hanson December 12, 1945 in Flagstaff. He was self-employed as a painter for many years. They moved to Utah from Arizona and later to Carlsbad in 1976. Joe enjoyed watching football, fishing and gardening.
Joe is survived by one sister Annie M. Ruekle of Phoenix, AZ; two nieces, Patricia Fairfield of TX and Nola Larson of ID.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fern Hanson Starkey, one brother and two sisters.
