Jo Ann Cade was born in Nashville, Arkansas on January 19, 1936 to Alva and Jewel (Womack) Chapel. Following her graduation from Nashville High School in 1954, she attended North Texas State Teacher's College. After earning her teaching degree, she took her first teaching position in Odessa, Texas where she taught in one of the school district's elementary schools for three years. In 1961 she met her husband, Ron Cade, and they were married in 1963. After three years teaching Odessa, she and her husband moved to Hobbs, NM, where she served as an elementary school teacher for one year. In 1965, Jo Ann and Ron moved to Carlsbad and taught at Eddy Elementary School for three years prior to moving to Las Cruces, NM and teaching at White Sands. After returning to Carlsbad in 1970, Jo Ann worked as an elementary teacher, retiring in 1972 to become a stay-at-home mom to raise two daughters, Laura and Susan. Although Jo Ann retired from teaching in the Carlsbad school system, she continued teaching Sunday School at First United Methodist Church for 25 years. She loved being involved in her children's school and extra-curricular activities and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She was also proud of the young women and mothers they had become and their careers in the field of accounting. She was a kind and caring person and a rock for her husband during their 51 years of marriage. She loved being a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Mildred Glass, Charlie Mae Dunn; brothers: J. W. Chapel and Dewey Chapel.
