Jimmy Runkle

Jimmy Runkle, 78, of Cimarron Trail, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, November 27, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Terry McKean officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jimmy Runkle was born February 11, 1937 in Roswell, NM to J.D. and Pauline (Stone) Runkle and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1955. He married Barbara McGinnis August 5, 1956. In the early years, Jim worked for Seven Rivers Trucking, Ford Town and Decor Furniture. He was co-owner of Runkle's Furniture while working part-time as an EMT for the fire department. Jim eventually began full time work with the city where he retired as Field Supervisor with Carlsbad Emergency Medical Services. After Barbara's death in 2010, Jim married Linda February 25, 2012. He was an active member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ where he served as Elder 25 plus years. Jim volunteered countless hours at Lakeview Christian Home serving on the Board of Directors from 1983 to 2015 where he served as Chairman over 15 years. He also was a volunteer with LaHuerta Fire Department for ten years. Jim's hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdad, Everett Lakey; wife, Barbara Runkle; daughter, Joyce Brazeal; grandson, Chris Castillo and brother, Bobby Runkle. Survivors are his wife, Linda Runkle of Carlsbad, NM; children: Debbie Shelton and husband, Glynn of Carlsbad, NM, Terri Chapman and husband, Jim of Beeville, Texas, Starlene Hess of Arizona, William Hoffman of Arizona, Sonda Gilbert and husband, Jim of Arizona; son-in-law, John Brazeal; grandchildren: Rick Castillo and wife, Cindi, Nicki Morrison and husband, Jeff, Andrea Molina and husband, Mike, Sara Whitzel and husband, Michael, Orlando Castillo and wife, Makaila, Cassie Florez and husband, Jarod, Callie Valentine and husband, Michael, Kristen Steward and husband, Will, Candace Freeman and husband, Glen, Matthew Hoffman, Mark Hoffman, Benjamin Gilbert; 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rick Castillo, Jeff Morrison, Mike Molina, Michael Whitzel, Jarod Florez, Michael Valentine, Will Steward and Orlando Castillo.
