Jimmie L. Houchin Sr. (Chicken-eye) 79, of East Rose Street., Carlsbad New Mexico passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Carlsbad Medical Center. There will be no visitation; cremation will take place. There will be a celebration of life later in Kansas.
Jimmie was born on February 14, 1942 in Matfield Green, Kansas to Wilbur and Juanita Houchin.
Jimmie was a loving, nurturing and devoted family man. Nothing pleased him more than being with family. Along with the never-ending smile, he had a rare humbleness about him that was easily recognized by all.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of activities and was always there to cheer them on.
He loved watching football, especially those Kansas City Chiefs.
Jimmie was a hard-working man. He could fix just about anything and loved tinkering in his shop. As a young man, he loved fast cars and had the sheriff on his tail on many occasions.
Jimmie worked in the Potash Mine for 25 years until it shut down, he then transitioned to a CDL truck driver for the oil field until retirement.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Houchin; mother, Juanita Houchin; and six siblings, Alonzo Houchin, Harvey Houchin, Darrell Dean Houchin, Ray Houchin, Dale Houchin and Glenn Edgar Houchin.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Caterina Houchin of Carlsbad, NM; 3 children: Jimmie Lee Houchin and wife Terri of Whitewright, Tx; Donna Cooper and husband Steve of Carlsbad, NM; Monica Stone and husband Anthony of Santa Fe, NM; Fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Four siblings: Alice Eshbaugh, William Houchin and wife, Tessie, Jerry Houchin and wife Sheila, Larry Houchin. Two sister in-laws; JoAnn Houchin and Zandie Houchin.
