Jim Connally passed away on September 24, 2014, at the age of 72 years.
A native of New Mexico, Jim was born and raised in Carlsbad and Malaga. He was a 1960 graduate of Carlsbad High School and attended NMSU in Las Cruces.
As a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard, Jim was activated during the Pueblo Incident and spent a year on active duty in Korea. After college, Jim worked as data processing manager for New Mexico Social Services, Los Alamos School District, and the City of Santa Fe. He spent the last forty years as a small rancher, farmer, and real estate investor. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Elk's Club. Jim was an advocate for veterans and children, especially in New Mexico. There was never an event he failed to sponsor when given the opportunity and asked by a child.
Jim was a lover of the outdoors and his greatest passion was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jim was a horse and wagon enthusiast and enjoyed giving rides to friends and neighbors. He also coached and supported numerous athletic teams and sports.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Forest McMinn Connally, and his father, Greene Connally. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vickie (Johnson) Connally; daughter, Shawn Connally and husband, Bruce Stewart, with their two sons, Will and Arlo; daughter, Shelly Connally and partner Donna Savill; son. Abraham (Abe) Connally and wife, Josie Moores, with their two sons, Leo and Nicky; daughter, Emily Connally; son, Forrest (Augie) Connally; brother, Bart Connally and wife, Susan Wong and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather with the family Tuesday, September 30, 2014, from 5-7 pm at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
