Jesus D. "Churry" Armendarez, Sr.

Jesus D. “Churry” Armendarez, Sr., 83, of Carlsbad, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023. Visitation will be 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 10, 2023 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jesus was born May 31, 1940 in Shafter, Texas to Jose and Esperanza (Deanda) Armendarez.  He married the love of his life, Virginia Munoz April 21, 1960 in Carlsbad, NM.  Churry worked for Duval and Western Ag for many years.  He served in the National Guard for 20 years.  Churry enjoyed hunting, going to the casinos and spending time with family.  He left a legacy that will live forever.  Churry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Armendarez; sons: Jerry and Jason Armendarez; brothers: Chon, Victor and Jose Armendarez, Jr.; sisters: Juana Calderon and Zenaida Armendarez.

Survivors are his companion, Julieta Morales; children: Vivian Valdez, Jackie Armendarez and wife, Alva, Viola Gutierrez and husband, Fermin, Jesus “Bontz” Armendarez, Jr. and Vanessa Torres and husband, Rudy; Julieta’s children: Dolly Morales and Jairo Morales; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Nicholas Armendarez, Sr. and wife, Yvonne; sisters: Maria Dobson and husband, George, Gloria Williams, Nati Saiz and Nick, Christy Castillo and numerous nieces and nephews.
