Jesus "Chewy" Valdez, Sr., 60, of Firecrown, Carlsbad, NM, passed away July 6, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Thursday, July 11, 2013 and will continue from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Friday, July 12, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A service is scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2013, 6:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplian Terry McKean officiating.
A Graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2013, 2:00 PM, at Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Jesus "Chewy" Valdez, Sr. was born July 21, 1952 in Loving, New Mexico. December 11, 1971 he married Rosemary Gonzalez in Carlsbad, NM. He worked as a miner for 30 years, retiring in 2006. Chewy served in the Air Force for 3 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the drums and listening to oldies. Chewy also liked visiting with company and cooking out. He could lift up spirits with his humor and helped anyone in need. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Manuel Valdez and Ricky Valdez.
Survivors are his wife, Rosemary Valdez of Carlsbad, NM; son, David Valdez and wife, Michelle of Bossier City, LA and their children: Jeremy Valdez, Jacob Valdez, Joshua Valdez, Jaliyia Valdez; daughter, Felicia Valdez Vasquez and husband, Henry of Carlsbad, NM and their children: Henry Vasquez, Alexus Vasquez and Gaven Vasquez; brothers: Frank Valdez and wife, Yolanda of Carlsbad, NM, Joe Valdez and wife, Freda of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Cindy Gomez of Las Cruces, NM; sisters-in-law: Bernie Valdez of Loving, NM and Sherry Valdez of Tucson, AZ.
