Jessie Joe Porras

Jessie Joe Porras, 53, of W. Monterey, Carlsbad, NM, passed away March 21, 2023.  Visitation will be at 5:00 PM, Thursday, March 30, 2023 followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, March 31, 2023 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie was born June 29, 1969 in Carlsbad, NM to Sammy and Grace (Lopez) Porras.  He was a true rocker at heart and a jack of all trades, mastering his craft as an electrician, cook, and handyman. Jessie had a talent for gardening and could make anything grow. You could always count on him to laugh and joke. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Marvel and DC, watching true crime shows with his dad, and annoying his mom. Time with his family brought Jessie immense joy and he adored his grandkids. His sudden passing has left loved ones broken, but we hope one day we’ll be able to smile about the unapologetic way he lived life, instead of being saddened by his death.

Jessie was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jesus and Audelia Porras, Cruz and Jesusita (Susie) Lopez; brother-in-law, Dan Saenz; uncles: Danny Chavez and Harvey Lopez and mother of his children, Mellanie Reed.

He is survived by his children: Jessica Porras, Danielle Giuliano, Sammy Porras, Devin Ellis and Sharon Porras; grandchildren: Saryla Rogers, Allana Rogers, Jayce Porras, Noah Giuliano and Gabriel Giuliano; niece, Kimberly Porras; nephews: Timothy Porras and Kevin Porras; parents: Sam and Grace Porras; sister, Lucretia Porras; brother, Samuel Porras and wife, Rosanne; friend, John May.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Porras, Kevin Porras, Dyllan Dominguez, Billy Dunaway, Danny Chavez, Devin Ellis, Bennie Dunn, Jr. and Jesus DeAvila.  Honorary pallbearers are Ron Abernathy, Sal Giuliano, Esmeralda Porras and Jaiden Contreras Porras.

To honor Jessie’s personality and style, family and friends are encouraged to wear rock-n-roll or Dallas Cowboys attire.
