Jessie Lee Askew, 79, former resident, departed this life and transitioned to the other side on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Abilene, TX. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Rev. David McPherson and Tim Askew officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jessie Lee Askew was born March 3, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to his parents, Timothy Jessie and Codella (Gadlin) Askew, Sr. There were 7 children born to this union and was always surrounded by the love of his four brothers and two sisters. Jessie Lee received his formal education in Mt. Vernon, Texas before relocating to Carlsbad, NM. In Carlsbad, Jessie Lee met and married the love of his life, Mae Louise Miller Askew. Jessie Lee was the proud father of six children. By profession, Jessie, retired from US Potash Mines. Jessie was a Godly man who loved the Lord and did not mind testifying about the goodness of God. He embraced life to the fullest and traveled many places around the world. He was a lover of people and made a friend and associate wherever he went. Jessie was a fun loving person who was loved by many including his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special great-great-niece, Kateona. He was preceded in death by his mother, Codella Gadlin Askew; father, Timothy "T. J." Askew, Sr.; four brothers: Matthew Hawkins Askew, Wilbert "Leo" Askew, Gwendolyn "Jitter" Askew, Timothy "Buddy" Askew; sister, Maurine Kelly and son, Jeffrey Bernard Askew. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his children: Hayward Askew of McKinney, TX, Rita King of Carlsbad, NM, Debra (DeeDee) Washington of Austin, TX, Sonja Palmer of Denver, CO, Chris Askew of Ft. Worth, TX; sister, Ruth Gardner; 14 grandchildren: Justin, Eric, Chyna, Kaylan, Jessie Jarad, Jeffrey, Sade Louise, Talea, Antionette, TaNisha, Roger, DeRon, Tasia, DaRyon and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jerry "Dobbie" Askew, T. J. "Stevie" Askew, M. H. "JR" Askew, DeRon Broughton, Cliff Boutte, John Peevy, Michael Askew. Honorary pallbearers will be Norvell Ingram, Eric Askew, DaRyon Palmer, Jimmy Mackey, Harvey Laird, Carl Beachum and Ricky Askew. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
