Jesse "Boyd" Lester, 87, of Gobbler, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2015, 10:00 AM, at New Song Christian Fellowship with Pastor John A. Burke officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Jessie "Boyd" Lester was born February 18, 1928 in Mammoth, West Virginia to Jesse James and Lena Bell (Knight) Lester, Sr. He served in the US Navy during WWII and later the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Jesse married Jewell Woolwine January 31, 1952 in Page, WV. They moved to Carlsbad in June of 1964. Jesse went to work for National Potash Mine and retired from Eddy Potash where he retired after 40 plus years in the mines. He loved hunting, fishing, reading and riding his 4-wheeler. Jesse enjoyed music and could play any stringed instrument. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jewel Lester; daughter, Cherrie Lena Lester; grandson, Michael Price; brothers: Fred, Amos and Wallace "Buddy" Lester; sisters: Marie White, Betty White and Mable Wyatt.
Survivors are his daughters: Debby Price and husband, Cloyd of Edgewood, NM, Merna Black and husband, Chuck of Carlsbad, NM, Belinda Darling and husband, Gary of Carlsbad, NM, Jessica Dennison and husband, Bryan of Carlsbad, NM; son, James Lester of Queen, NM; son-in-law: Roger Harris of Carlsbad, NM; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lester of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Jacqueline Marie Royle, Lena Jordan, Robby Harris, Charity Bock, Ridge Darling, Sage Darling, Tanishia Dennison, Andrew Dennison, Kendra Lester and JJ Lester; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; nephew, Butch Lester and several other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Brogdon, John Thomas, Chuck Bernin, Bryan Dennison, Roger Harris, Chuck Black and Gary Darling.
