Jerry Howerton, 62, of 113 E. Hamilton, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away April 19, 2011 at his home. There will be no visitation, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, April 22, 2011, 4:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John A. Burke officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jerry Howerton was born January 19, 1949 in Carlsbad, NM to Jerrell and Florence (Philpott) Howerton. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1968. Jerry married Mary Mathis on October 16, 1969 here in Carlsbad. He worked for National Potash for several years. Jerry then went to work for US Cable where he worked for 21 years as a technician. He sold furniture at Skeen Furniture for five years before resigning because of health issues. Jerry never met a stranger and had a knack for making people feel special. His beautiful smile was infectious. Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He was an active member of New Song Christian Fellowship. Jerry will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Howerton of Carlsbad, NM; son, Jason Howerton and wife, Melissa of Roswell, NM; daughter, Shannon Reynolds and husband, Chris of McKinney, TX; five grandchildren: Miranda Howerton, Emily Howerton, Joshua Howerton, Carter Reynolds and Caleb Reynolds; parents, Jerrell and Florence Howerton of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Michael Howerton and wife, Diane of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Laurie Ristom and husband, Mike of Carlsbad, NM; brothers-in-law: Johnny Mathis of Garland, TX, Billy Mathis and wife, Val of Mesquite, TX, Bart Mathis of Mesquite, TX, Brad Mathis of Farmington, NM; sister-in-law, Helen Stahle and husband, Mike of Farmington, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the countless people who helped them during Jerry's illness, whether by prayers, financially or visits. They couldn't have made it without you.
