Brother Jerry Grantner, 76, former resident of Carlsbad, passed away December 21, 2023, in Albuquerque. Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at San Juan Diego Friary, Albuquerque, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at 12:30 PM at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Gabaldon Mortuary, Albuquerque, NM, is in charge of the arrangements.
Brother Jerry was born November 7, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois to Martin and Mary Grantner. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years during Vietnam. In 1975, Brother Jerry moved from Chicago to Carlsbad with his family and soon thereafter entered religious life as a Franciscan Brother. He served the Lord as a Franciscan Friar for 41 years with the Roman Catholic Church. Brother Jerry ministered to many people throughout his life, serving as counselor and teacher and also helped in maintaining the archives and assisting with bookkeeping. Brother Jerry enjoyed reading, painting, and poetry.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Mary Grantner and sister-in-law, Patsy Grantner. Brother Jerry’s kindness and grace will be remembered by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Gail Peterson and husband, Roger, Gwen Grantner, Judy Horka, Jim Grantner, Renee Ramsey and husband, John; nieces and nephews: Tonia Galindo and husband, Robert, Michelle Trew and husband, Chris, Jim Peterson and wife, Shelley, Mark Peterson and wife, Misty, Robert Peterson, Anthony Salazar and wife, Susan, Shawn Salazar, Danielle Horka, and Shane Horka.
