Jean Martin

Jean Martin, 89, of North Edward Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her home. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Philip Huston officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jean Martin was born February 27, 1926 in Lexington, Oklahoma to Bruce and Beulah (Thornton) Lindsey. She graduated from high school in Elmore City, Oklahoma and then went to Wesley College and finished as a Register Nurse. After graduation, Jean moved to Carlsbad in 1947 and married Thomas L. Martin on August 28, 1948. They bought their house on North Edward Street shortly after their wedding where Jean was still residing at the time of her death. She worked at St. Francis Hospital and later Carlsbad Regional Medical Center including working for Dr. Sewell Starcke, retiring in 1979. Jean was the first recipient of the Employee of the Year Award with Carlsbad Regional Medical Center. She was always active in her kids lives and later enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas L. Martin; brothers: Elbert Lindsey, Bill Lindsey, Bruce Lindsey, Jr. and sister, Mamie Jo Pearson. The family would like to thank Barbara Salmons, Tanya Willis, Tammy Morgan, Linda Walker, Daisy Cuthbertson, Mary Barbosa, Wilma Duran, Gloria Rodriguez and Shannon Martinez for their dedicated and loving care. They also would like to thank the staff at Golden Services. Survivors are her daughter, Rhonda Salerno and husband, Doug of Tucson, AZ; son, Shawn T. Martin and wife, Susan of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Tereasa Ornelas and husband, Ervie of Loving, NM, Christina Hernandez and husband, Larry of Tucson, AZ, Ryan Martin and wife, Katie of Carlsbad, NM, Kyle Martin of Carlsad, NM, Claire Bussell and husband, Brandon of Carlsbad, NM; great-grandchildren: Ian Young of Loving, NM, Zachary Young of Loving, NM, Gabrielle Hernandez of Tucson, AZ and sister-in-law, Lillian Seal and husband, Bill of Carlsbad, NM.
