Jean Asbury

Jean Asbury, Carlsbad, was born March 11, 1932 in Lookout, Kentucky to Harman and Nannie Nelms. She passed away peacefully on May 6, 2017 at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Jean and Julian Asbury were married on February 17, 1950. They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2008. They moved to Carlsbad with their family in 1959. She worked for the Motel Stevens as the food and beverage manager for 40 years. Jean enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, reading, and watching her grandchildren play ball and dance. She also enjoyed having her family bring her a Coke every day!! She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julian Asbury; son, George Asbury; her daughter, Georgette Bobbitt; and great-grandson, Kayde Chester. Survivors include her son, Richard Asbury and wife LaNell of Carlsbad; grandchildren: Eric Nordstrom; Carl Nordstrom; Jennifer Sosa and husband Ryan; Arron Asbury and wife Bri; Dondee Groves and husband Kenny; Josh Asbury; Jeremiah Asbury and wife Jennifer; Nichole Asbury; Rheanna Asbury and husband Wade; Monica Kidd and husband Aaron; Dustin Vest; and Thurman Lara and wife Amanda; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Mae Willis; and numerous extended family members and friends.
