Jay Lewis

Jay Lewis, 92, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  Jay was born on January 23, 1931, in Lakewood, NM.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no services held at this time.

Jay married the love of his life, Shirley Cobb on November 19, 1955, and then they started their family together. He spent most of his life as a rancher. His love of history made him the go to guy for all things Eddy County. Jay had a love for his family, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Jay is no longer in pain, and he is now eternally healed, and we say Hallelujah that we will get to see him again one day.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Viora “Whirty” Millman and Sadie Dickson.

Jay is survived by his wife, Shirley Lewis; two daughters: Pam Bilberry and husband, Jay of Artesia, NM; and Dana Hodges and husband, Scott of Lubbock, TX; four grandchildren: Justin Bilberry (Chelsea), Josh Bilberry (Anna), Tara Wood, Joe Clay Hodges (Katy); eight great grandchildren: Kylynn, Jed, Natalie, Jax, K’Anne, Jace, Evelyn, and Barrett; one great-great grandchild, Jameson; and numerous other extended family and friends.
