Obituary
Janice Terry Wallace passed peacefully to her heavenly home on October 10, 2018, at GoodLife Assisted Living. Services will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, with Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Janice was born on December 14, 1924, to Paul H. and Edna (Burham) Terry, in Wauneta, Nebraska, the oldest (by 31 minutes) of twin daughters. She married William E. Bill Wallace on May6, 1944, in Hastings, Nebraska. In 1955, they moved from Mountainair to Carlsbad, where Bill taught at Alta Vista and Mid High schools and Janice taught piano lessons in the home from 1956 until she retired in 2015. She was a nationally certified music teacher through the St. Louis School of Music, and was a member of the Carlsbad Music Teachers Forum, the New Mexico Music Teachers Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi women's sorority. For many years, she served as the Children's Division Sunday school director at First Baptist Church, sang in the sanctuary choir and the women's ensemble, played the organ and piano for worship services, directed the youth handbell choir and played in the adult handbell choir, Jubilation; and served on the Berna Deen Stephens Memorial Scholarship Fund committee.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her in-laws, LowellT. and Jessie L. Wallace; her brother, Norval Terry; a granddaughter, Debbie Malone; a niece, Patricia Fosher; sisters-in-law Velma Terry and Thelma Hamilton; and brothers-in-law Ernest Jacobs, Winfred Mattox, and Buddy Hamilton. She is survived by her twin sister, Joyce Jacobs; daughters Vivian Allen and husband Jim and Carolyn Kenney and husband Jim; grandchildren Becky Sensibaugh and husband Mike, Seth Kenney and wife Pam, Terra Abellana and husband Sean, Beverly Allen, James Allen and wife Tammy, and Bobbie Flowers and husband Darren; twenty-six great grandchildren and four spouses; seven great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Caleb Cunningham, Alan Dickerson, Mark Hollis, Nathan Jurva, Ken Kemp, and Jerry Moore. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berna Deen Stephens Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 112 N. Alameda Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220; the Gideons Bible Society; or the charity of your choice.
The family wants to express thanks for the staff at Good Life Assisted Living, who gave her loving care for her the last three years, and to the staff of Encompass Hospice Care, who cared for her during the last months of her life. You are special people.
