Janice "Nece" Underwood

Janice "Nece" Underwood 88, died this Saturday December 4, 2010 in Carlsbad, NM. Born April 30, 1922 , in Pleasant Hills, Yell County Arkansas. Preceded in death by her parents Julia Mae Dawson Kirkes & Jessie S. Kirkes as well as her siblings Verna Green, Violet Nell Kirkes, Mary Nell Bradley, R.H. "Red"Kirkes. R.B. "Shorty" Kirkes, F.U. "Boog" Kirkes, H.D. "Chock" Kirkes, E. A. "Eck" Kirkes, J.D. "Mutt" Kirkes. Nece was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-two years Willie Udell Underwood. Survived by her three children, Linda Dunagan, Bill & Bob Underwood, and six grandchildren Mika Young, Don Underwood, Jason Dunagan, Charissa Pagano, Lacey Keene, Kyle Underwood, and twelve great grandchildren. Survived by her siblings Bonnie Williams & Bill & Bonita Kirkes, Charles & Barbra Kirkes. Known well as a loving Mother, adored Grandmother, bestest Aunt, Sister and friend. Those who were privileged enough to try her baking NEVER forgot the experience from this Master Pastry Chef. She'll be remembered for her sunny disposition, sense of humor and big heartedness. Janice Kirkes moved from Arkansas the first time in 1933 with her family in a big truck with13 kids piled in the back. Their family traveled back and forth for many years between Malaga, Loving, Otis, NM and Arkansas. As a young woman she worked in the Principals office in the Otis school for several years until she married Udell Underwood 1941. As a homemaker she was a devoted wife & stellar mother who took care of her children as well as extended family. Janice was a proud member of the Otis Baptist church. Visitation will be held Tuesday the December 7, 2010, 4-7 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Carlsbad Foundation. Family Meal will be 11:30am to be held in LDS church. Services to be held on Wednesday December 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM 1722 North Mesa at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
