Jane West Trone

Dorothy Jane Trone, 80 of Gambel Quail Ct, Carlsbad, NM passed away, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at home. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday June 1, 2013 at the Sacramento Methodist Assembly Chapel, in Sacramento, NM, with family friend Greg Smoga officiating. Lunch will be provided following the service. Jane was born in Timpson, Texas on December 9, 1932. The family moved to Malaga, NM when she was about 6 years old, where her father worked on a farm. She attended elementary school in Malaga and Loving, and later attended and graduated from Carlsbad High School. After high school she worked as a hostess at Blount's cafeteria in Carlsbad. While working there she met and later, after a one-week courtship, married her husband of 55 years, Dick Trone. In 1954 their first of three children was born and at that point Jane became a stay-at-home mother and housewife. In 1970 the family moved from Carlsbad to Sacramento, NM and Jane bought and operated the Hay Canyon Store for several years while Dick became a building contractor and built many homes and cabins in the area. Jane loved to paint, and spent much of her free time at the store working on paintings or sketches. She and a couple of other women worked for months on a large three panel, "forest scene", backdrop that was given to the US Forrest service for their use at public events. In 1979 she sold the store and was again a stay at home mother and wife. She did help with the construction business by drawing plans and keeping the books of Trone Construction. In 1989 she and Dick moved to Alamogordo, NM as Dick retired from being an active contractor and took a 3 year job at Holloman Air force base as the director of the complete remodel of the base housing. When this job was over, they sold their home in Alamogordo and moved to Carlsbad, were Jane took the job of managing Carlsbad Mobile Manor. In 2006 she retired from managing the park due to health issues. She was a person of faith and a patriot and she taught her children the value of both their relationship with God and to be proud of their country and the people who served it faithfully. Although in the past several years she was not active in church, She was active in church before moving from Carlsbad (they were charter members of Epworth United Methodist Church), and she and Dick attended a bible study in the mountains for most of the years there. On the patriot side: She made sure that she got a ballot every time there was an election, and she would speak her mind openly about how she felt about the politics of the day. Above all, Jane loved people and was caring and generous with what she had. There were often friends, people who were alone, or people she had just met, at the family dinner table. She would give food from the Hay Canyon store to people in need or would carry them on credit for long periods of time. She also took people into the home for a place to live at different times. She loved the beauty of nature: working in the yard, painting, and she especially loved growing and looking at flowers. Jane is preceded in death by her parents Anna Victoria (Pat) and Elwood Clifford West, her sister Wanda Stroud, Nephew Thomas Stroud, and husband Richard C. (Dick) Trone. She is survived by her children: Debora Wilbourn of Artesia, Belinda Niemi of Richland, WA, and Paul Trone and his wife Janis of Carlsbad. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Amanda (Wilbourn) Leggett and her husband Kevin and their children Caedmon, Presley, and Hendrix of Midland Texas; Karli Wilbourn of Artesia; Matthew Niemi and his son Jaxon of Richland, WA, James Niemi of Albquerque, NM; Brad Trone and wife Hayley of Santa Fe, NM and Bryan Trone of Carlsbad. Other relatives include: Cousins Ricky West and wife Brenda of Chile, and Rocky and Gay West of Carlsbad; Nephew Cliff Stroud and wife Wren of Carlsbad, and niece Janean Fiest of Carlabad; as well as numerious great nieces and nephews.
