Jane B. Clay, Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015. She was born January 29, 1923, to Fred and Lila Burt in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1951, she married John H. Clay at the Episcopal Church in La Junta, Colorado. They had two children.
She earned a bachelor of science degree cum laude in public health nursing from the University of Syracuse, Syracuse, New York. In World War II, she served as a nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and served in Japan at the end of the war. She worked as a public health nurse in Pennsylvania, Florida and Colorado.
She was a wife, mother, homemaker, nurse and artist and had lifelong interests in painting, sculpture and crafts. As a volunteer she was a docent at the Phoenix Zoo for ten years and for thirteen years at the Living Desert Park and Zoo in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Jane is survived by her husband, John H. Clay of Carlsbad; daughter, Lisa Dilg and husband, Stephen Dilg of Santa Fe, New Mexico; son, John Kevin Clay and wife, Suzanne of Milford, Connecticut; two grandchildren: Kevin Dilg of Portland, Oregon and Eleanor Jane Clay of Milford, Connecticut.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
