James attended Carlsbad Municipal Schools up until his junior year and later received his GED. He attended college at NMSU in Las Cruces, New Mexico to study engineering before attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. James was one year away from a degree in Architecture and completed his architectural internship with Durham and Associates Architects, Inc.
James was very thoughtful, loving, and talented. Even as a young child, his family knew that he was immensely gifted. He quickly mastered any hobby that he found an interest in. James was involved in tee ball, and would later go on to play some baseball. He took Karate lessons. And he was also part of the Young Astronauts group and Boy Scouts. As James grew he began to enjoy riding bikes, skateboards, and rollerblades. He also went on to rope in rodeos at the Sheriff's Posse Arena. But later he would go on to find his most beloved sport, snowboarding. He also enjoyed rock-climbing at Vida Voo, Wyoming.
James was also musically gifted. He was an amazing song writer. He played the drums, piano, guitar, and sang with numerous musicians throughout Texas and New Mexico. Of all the talents James had, these were his favorite to show off. There was hardly a time where you could find him without his guitar. He was a wonderful entertainer.
If you didn't see James with his guitar, you would see him with a note pad. He was an artist. Any idea he had, he would sketch it out on a piece of paper. He especially loved to design homes. When he wasn't drawing homes up on paper, he was using Auto Cad. Many times he would actually build a model of his design. James loved wood working and building. If he wasn't designing homes, he was restoring them for friends and family. In his spare time, James would work on computers. They intrigued him from a very young age. He was also quite the auto mechanic. He spent most of his life working on vehicles. He could fix anything.
James enjoyed off-roading, shooting, and bowling with family and friends. He also had a passion for travelling. He has been to Mexico City, New York City, and many ski resorts throughout New Mexico and Colorado.
James was a very strong, handsome young man with a big heart. Every person that has had the privilege to meet him, has said what a wonderful impact he has had. He touched many lives with just his smile. He had the ability to pick anyone up when they were down. He brought a lot of light and laughter to this world. In death, James has continued to make a huge impact on the lives of others. He chose to be an organ donor. For that he is a hero. James will be missed dearly.
He was a proud member of several pioneer families in Eddy County the Shattuck, Lyon, Jones, Fanning, Corn, Neeley, Arrington, Brinninstool, Moore, and Slusher. He had an abundance of pride in his heritage.
